Cincinnati Durga Utsav 2008
It is known to the civilized world that the deeper truths of the scripture of Hinduism are quite difficult and abtruse. So, the sages of India created type of religious literature called "Puranas" or scriptural teachings through stories and parables.

In all eighteen (18) Puranas are available today. The CHANDI or Devimahatmyam, is a part of a Purana- known as Markandya Purana. Hindu's greatest festival (especially in Eastern India) "Durgotsava" comes from this Purana. (vide Swami Bhaskarananda, Seattle, WA).

It is said that according to Devi Purana, Lord Ram invoked Sri Sri Ma Durga to win over the Evil King Ravana in an inauspicious season and time. That's why it is known as "Akaal Bodhan". In essence it is the "Victory of the Truth and Righteousness over the Evil and Falsehood".
